I need to find a picture of my father Virgil Peters who served in the Army during WW2 as Private First Class in the 463rd Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion.
His separation center was in Ft. Knox, KY December 11, 1945.
463rd Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion is classified as Ground Unit. To find records of your relative you can visit the new NARA site and here is a link to it
http://www.archives.gov/contact/inquire-form.html
Look for a window on the homepage along the top which has Ask A Question about Research and Records. After clicking on this you will see a page with these words FIND: REQUEST.
Next, look for Military and Military Engagements
You will be redirected to another page that has another window and the words ARMY. Click on ARMY. You will again be redirected to another page will a small window on it. Look for US Army Battle Records. Scroll down until you can see Unit Records of WW I and later. Click on that. Below that you will see Paper Records. Click on that and create a log in/password. You will see inside a box that has the words Unit/Regiment.
By this time you can ask for the unit history and other documents like After Action Reportsm (AARs) and daily journal. Fill up the necessary info so that they can mail this to you. However you need to be prepared to pay a certain fee. The last post that I read says its 50 cents per page in US dollars of course.
Hi Marra, I am also looking for a picture of my father who served in the Army in WWII.
Did you have any luck getting a picture of your father? I would think it would be easy and not so difficult. There should be a giant database with just military pictures - right?
